COLUMBIA, S.C. – There’s no question which candidates for governor and lieutenant governor support the job South Carolina public teachers do. James Smith and Mandy Powers Norrell want to raise their salaries to above the Southeastern average, and improve the schools in which they teach across the board.
But it’s very gratifying to know the teachers have James’ and Mandy’s backs as well – which we know because the South Carolina Education Association has endorsed them!
In releasing their overall endorsements, with James and Mandy at the top of the list, the SCEA said:
These South Carolina candidates have been through The SCEA’s rigorous interview and vetting process and were screened based on the most pressing education issues and their overall record of support for public education. Our profession depends on electing officials who support our students and public schools. As such, we ask for educators to support these candidates.
James Smith will be an Education Governor – like Dick Riley and Jim Hodges before him – who will prioritize recruiting and retaining great teachers, keep our children safe, pursue bold reforms, and advance modernization and innovation to transform our education system so that all students are prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
“I’m proud and gratified to have this vote of confidence from our public schoolteachers,” said Smith. “As governor, I will work to make sure they have the support they need in providing an excellent education to all of our children, regardless of where they live.”
“We can promise our state’s teachers that we won’t let them down!” added Norrell.
